"Newtown Bridge" jumped well and was always in command in the closing stages to comfortably account for Mon Oiseau by over two lengths.
"We might run next in Perth Gold Cup, and I hope he will be a Galway Plate horse if things work out," said Elliot. It was the second leg of a double for Carberry, who won the opening handicap hurdle in similarily comfortable fashion on "Charminamix", this one for Tony Martin.
The Governors Cup went to "Doctor Woodfield", from Mullingar stable of Cecil Ross. It was a first success in the saddle under rules for a member of another famous Mullingar family, 21 year old Danny Foster, grandson of Mick Foster of famous folk music duo Foster & Allen.
The trainer said "We were hoping hed go on the ground - he hadnt really been operating on soft". Another rider visiting the winners enclosure for the first time was 21 year old Darryl Millar from Armoy in County Antrim, who partnered newcomer "Liams Way", in the second division of the bumper for locally-based trainer Ian Ferguson. The winner will now go out to grass.
"Moran", who trains the daughter of "Bahhare" for the six-member Snug Brunch Syndicate, who all hail from Roscommon, said "She did it well, shes been going well at home, and the ground was perfect for her. We might go for another bumper and then go hurdling."
On what was a good day for amateurs, 19 year old Eddie OConnell rode his second winner in the space of three weeks for James Lambe, partnering "Andijan" to win the conditions hurdle.
